About Ywca Toronto-Ywca Elm Centre

The 300 permanent housing units at the YWCA Elm Centre serve three distinct resident groups: 165 affordable rental units for women, 50 units for Indigenous women, gender nonconforming individuals, and their families, and 85 supportive units for women and gender nonconforming individuals who are experiencing mental health issues or co-occurring mental health and drug use issues.

The Elm Community Engagement Team is dedicated to the development of community capacity, housing stability, and health promotion, and offers a variety of services and activities to all residents.

Responsibilities

  • You should work together as a team to establish a memorable environment, and renters and visitors should be greeted with a friendly and helpful attitude.
  • Working within a feminist framework that necessitates the adept management and understanding of the processes and consequences of mental illness, trauma, and oppression
  • Arrange for tenant reservations at Nancy’s Auditorium, Jack Layton Lounge, and Winona Community Lounge; schedule visits to the Women’s College Clinic at Elm.
  • Assist in the orientation process for new tenants to ensure that they are at ease with and comprehend the community, personnel, and services.
  • Address on-site crises by employing the on-call procedures (i.e., property services, directors, and housing support program personnel).
  • Respond to potential safety issues by taking corrective action and ensuring that the appropriate individuals are informed of any hazards.
  • The supervisor is informed of any emergencies, vandalism, or disruptions, and an incident record is generated as necessary.
  • Maintain communication with pertinent personnel, including housing workers, community engagement staff, and property services personnel.
