Latest British Council Women in STEM Scholarships

Do you possess a degree in a STEM discipline and are fervently passionate about it? A scholarship may be available to pursue a master’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics at a prestigious university in the United Kingdom.

If you have completed a STEM doctorate within the past three years, you are eligible to apply for an Early Academic Fellowship scholarship.

The Women in STEM Scholarships program, which is administered by the British Council, is currently in its third year. It collaborates with 19 universities in the United Kingdom to provide assistance to women from Brazil, Egypt, Mexico, Turkey, South Asia, East Asia, the Western Balkans, and Central Asia.

We are in search of women who have a background in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and who are willing to encourage younger women to pursue STEM careers. These women must demonstrate that they require financial assistance.

Why have a program for scholarships?

The objective of this scholarship program is to increase the opportunities for women and girls to pursue careers in the STEM sector. Less than 30% of researchers worldwide are female, and only 30% of female college students select STEM-related disciplines, according to the United Nations Scientific, Educational, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Nevertheless, this figure has been gradually increasing and is currently at 35%. (Anon, 2022).

A subject-by-subject analysis from 2017 to 2018 revealed that the number of women pursuing STEM subjects was exceedingly low. While 81% of males pursue a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, and Technology, only 19% of women do. Physical sciences, mathematics, and statistics are more robust than their counterparts, which have scores of 61 and 63%, at 39% and 37%, respectively.
