If you are the recipient of a scholarship, Financial Aid and Awards will send you a written notification. Funds may not be disbursed until the midpoint of the application term due to the substantial volume of applications received each term. We recommend that you develop suitable strategies.

Simon Fraser University, Canada’s most community-engaged research university, was established in 1965 on the picturesque west coast of British Columbia. The university has three vibrant urban campuses.

The Trottier Observatory, the Compute Canada building, and Cedar, one of Canada’s supercomputing and data centers, are all located on the original campus, which was designed by renowned Canadian architects Geoffrey Massey and Arthur Erickson. The campus contains more than 36 academic structures.

In 1989, SFU’s Harbour Centre campus, situated in the heart of Vancouver’s financial district, was inaugurated for business. The Morris J. Wosk Center for Dialogue, the Segal Graduate School of Business, the Charles Chang Innovation Center, and the Goldcorp Center for the Arts are four of the seven locations on the campus that are currently operational. Requirements

To apply for a scholarship, you must:

  • have completed a minimum of 12 units of SFU standard-graded coursework.
  • Enroll in a minimum of 12 units of SFU-standard-graded courses during the application term.
  • A minimum SFU CGPA of 3.50 is required.

Audit, challenge, and credit-free courses are not considered.

Enrolling in three units does not satisfy the enrollment requirement, as a co-op term is not a conventional graded course.

If a student with a disability is enrolled in six or more units of standard-graded courses and meets all other eligibility requirements, they are eligible to apply for scholarships. The applicant is required to submit a letter from the Center for Accessible Learning (CAL) at SFU, which confirms the student’s registration with the center.

A student who has received an SFU entrance award is eligible to apply for any other scholarship that the university provides.

A student who is the recipient of an SFU entrance scholarship is ineligible for any other scholarship administered by the university until the entrance scholarship is fully paid. This policy applies to any scholarship period that has been postponed for entrance.

Certain types of financial assistance are exclusively available to Indigenous students. The term “Indigenous” can be more precisely defined as “Indigenous peoples of Canada,” which encompasses the Métis, Inuit, and First Nations peoples.

Applications for the spring are no longer being accepted. Please be advised that notifications will be sent exclusively to the candidates who have been selected.

  • To examine the application period and final deadline, please visit Application Deadlines.
  • By reviewing the Spring Scholarship and Awards List, determine the scholarships and awards for which you wish to apply.
  • To apply online, visit go.sfu.ca and log in to the Student Information System.
  • The “Student Center” button should be selected.
  • Please proceed to Awards and Financial Aid (located under Finances).
  • Click on the “Apply for Scholarships and Awards” button.
  • List the scholarships and awards for which you intend to apply on your online application.
  • Complete and submit your application.
  • By the application deadline, please submit any supporting documents to faawards@sfu.ca via email.
  • Establish Direct Deposit through the Student Accounts Office at your earliest convenience to be eligible for any potential refunds.

  1. Does Simon Fraser University offer full scholarships for international students?

    As an international graduate student, you may be eligible for financial assistance programs including scholarships, graduate fellowships, awards, teaching- and research assistantships, or bursaries. Total scholarship support cannot exceed $60,000 per academic year.

  2. How much is the SFU open scholarship?

    The value of the scholarship is set by the University as a portion of the actual tuition costs accounted by those eligible. The per unit rate for standard graded courses will be determined based on the availability of funds. The per unit rate will be set for a value within a range of $70 to $100 per term.

  3. How to get a scholarship in SFU?

    These SFU scholarships recognize high schoolstudenten who demonstrate excellence in both their academic and extracurricular activities. To apply, you need to have average grades at 90% or above. If you’re in an International Baccalaureate (IB) program, a minimum of 31 IB points works as well.
